I can get a 24-105L for 400, and am wondering if it's worth it. The IS doesn't work and, if cheap enough, I'd have it fixed.

But if it's more than a hundred to fix, it's hard to justify the expense when a good used copy that works is about 600-650.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

its been a while, 2/3 years but I've had 2 IS systems replaced on the 70-200 2.8 v1 and v2.........cost was more than $100 ..memory says ballpark about 300 each with cps discount
$100 figure is more like wishful thinking

I just had one of my 24-105L lenses repaired by Canon. Including shipping both ways, the total cost was about $300.

This lens is $639 new. I doubt the cost to fix the IS is less than $300.

Do you need the IS?
I certainly have no use for the IS on my 24-105, in fact I very rarely use it on my Canon 800 F5.6 L IS. Since turning off the IS on all my IS lenses I have noticed improved AF and a higher keeper rate. You have a 6D so the light has got to be pretty poor before ISO becomes a problem!
Having said that the 24-105 has dropped so much in price that a good fully functional one shouldn't cost too much, perhaps you should pass this one by?
