I used to have a T3i with the Tamron 17-50 non VC and 90mm macro. I sold it a few years ago and picked up a Fuji X10 which has pleasantly surprised me.

I'm looking to upgrade though and was considering cameras like the Fuji XE2 and XT1 but considering the XE2 + 18-55 is around $1200 and the XT1 is $1200 for just the body ($2000 for the body + 18-135 kit) they're both a big chunk of change. Plus, Fuji lenses seem very expensive and although a 3rd party lens will work with an adapter, I would have to manually focus it and if I'm paying that much for a camera I would want it to be able to focus.

So I'm thinking about coming back to an SLR. I'm able to get a used 60D body from a reputable dealer for $599. I remember when I had my T3i that the 60D seemed to be the next step up. Is it much of a step up from the T5i? FWIW I'd likely go with the Tamron 17-50 and 90 macro again because they both served me well in the past and were very sharp.

I don't plan on doing a lot of video so don't know if I should bother considering the 70D or not.

It's not a bad camera but $600 is too much. I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a 60D at this point.

Agree with comment above. Afte three years of use I still enjoy what this camera can do. But as a price point check the 60D body, refurbished by Canon, is US $432. OK, it is out of stock at the moment and that is US $.

If you're going to pay that much I think that you could consider paying just a bit more to get a used 70D, depending on what you like to shoot of course.

You can get a refurb 60D with 1 year warranty from canon USA for $460+tax during their semi-regular sales or via the loyalty program. Dunno if it's the same in canada or not.

When I get around to selling my 60D with a Canon battery grip, I'll probably add the 17-55 f/2.8 as well and price the combo at $1100. My thinking is $450 for the camera and grip and $650 for the 17-55 f/2.8.

I'm not quite ready to do it but I'm sure you can pick up a 60D alone for around $400 as has been mentioned.

i would look for a used 7d,they are selling pretty cheap with all the hype of the 7d ii that may or may not be released,if u do get a 60d i think u will be happy with it,its a lot meatier and pro feeling compared to the rebel lineup,i tried the rebel line up when i got my 60d and they felt like toys compared to the 60d with its bigger body and top lcd and weather sealing, the feel of the 60d sold me,I'm sure a rebel would have been fine but after feeling the 60d i couldn't grasp the rebels felt cheap.

The refurbished 60D used to be around $500 (included one year warranty) last year when the 70D came out Best Buy was selling the 60D for $439

Thanks for the replies. I wish I could find a used one from a reputable dealer in the $400 range but we tend to have to pay a little more north of the border.

Yes it is a good step up from a t3i. I think the 60d is the best bang for the buck camera right now. They can be found for 400 but hard to find at that price... they sell around 450 used normally

check your local future shop, sometimes they have open box cams, ones that people bought and then returned for one reason or another but nothing wrong with them, you can barter on those ones,i bought my daughters cam that way and a laptop also, don't be afraid to haggle with open box,u may have to ask if they have any, most times they are in the display cabs but in the back hard to see, they can haggle on those ones

After a lot of back and forth between SLRs and mirrorless I ordered a used 60d from Henry's a few days ago and am just waiting for it to get sent out. I plan on getting the Tamron 17-50 non VC to start and later adding the Tamron 90 macro and 70-300 lenses.

I think the 60d is the best bang for the buck camera right now.

So many Canon bodies can claim this title. 1D Mark II n for $280!!!! You could run a sports photo business with that, no problem. 1D Mark III for $800!!! (I do run a sports photo business on that, and I've even shot two $1000 photos with it) The 50D for $300 is a wonderful deal, and beats the 60D in some areas -- throw Magic Lantern on it, and it's a really sweet body.

60D is a really great value used, to be sure. There are a lot of them in the Canon lineup though.

I'm in a very similar situation deciding between a CLP 60D and a 70D bundle right now (essentially getting the body for $700). They both seem like great cameras!

bannedPermanent ban

I've had my 60D for almost 4 years. No way on earth I'd sell it for what 60Ds are going for these days.
