Possible issue with 6D

Let me start off by stating that I am not trying to stir everyone into the frenzy pot by mentioning this... I don't want everyone thinking that they have a faulty unit... Heck, mine might not even be faulty...

Here goes.. Yesterday during an engagement session, I was making adjustments to get an exposure that I was looking for and the index finger adjustment wheel on the top completely stops working and I was unable to adjust any values (ss, iso, focus modes). I was in full M mode so I figured maybe it was an issue with the batteries (using 2 oem LP-e6 in a Vello grip) I powered the camera off removed the batteries and re-inserted and powered back up. ........ nothing.. still cant make an adjustment using the adjustment wheel but I can hit the Q and make adjustments with the main dial on the back. eventually top adjustment wheel begins to work again... I am not certain what change I made to allow it to work again. I was shooting with a sigma 105 macro. I thought maybe this was the issue, but no,.... It also occurred about 25 minutes later with my canon 24-70, although it was an erratic issue, it has now gone away and I haven't seen it since, I have another portion of our session to finish tonight and I will see if it is going to occur again.

if anyone has any idea what this may be or has witnessed this on a 6D or any other body, please advise.

Does this also happen when the grip is switched off, or if the grip is removed?
I once had (other) strange behaviour because I accidentally pressed the BBF on the grip.

You didn't play with the lock switch on the rear bottom, did you? Have a grip?

Yes, I have a Vello grip. If I remember correctly, I did try to switch the lock button on and off. I have not tried use the camera without the grip or with the grip turned off. the next time it does this... (hopefully never) I will remove the grip completely and see if the issue remains witht he camera or if it immediately goes away..

any other suggestions?

I had the same issue with a 40D using a third party grip. The wheel on the grip got knocked and, rather than slipping into the next detent slot, it rested between two "clicks". This had the effect of disabling the top wheel on the camera, and I couldn't adjust anything either. Assuming the camera wheel was faulty, the obvious solution was to use the wheel on the grip instead until I could get it looked at. As soon as I moved the wheel on the grip the camera wheel was fine. Playing around later, to confirm where the fault lay, I found it easy to move the grip wheel into a position that disabled the camera wheel, and then move it again to bring the camera wheel back to life.

I would think that your problem lies in the grip, if it happens again just try turning the wheel on the grip and make sure it is seated on a correct location and not between two.

I've had that problem on my 7D when the control dial on the grip got nudged and was stuck between clicks. My top dial on the camera quit working until I turned the dial on the grip a little bit to the next click.

+1. Seen this before.

Yep, make sure that the dial on the grip stops exactly on a click-stop. If it gets caught in between it will disable the analogous dial on the camera.

I'm going to guess that it's the third party grip.

Yup, just nudge the grip button and all should be ok... Happens to me once in awhile.

I absolutely love this forum... I haven't confirmed that this was the issue but I will this evening... I would have never thought that... thanks so much everyone!
