This is exhausting... I need some serious help. I’m looking for a web host for three gallery-type websites and it is not going well.
I’ve had a “coming soon” splash page on a web host for approximately the last century and am finally finding the time to put together something a little more serious. The splash page is all I’ve ever done and my current host doesn’t have very good reviews, so it’s time for a change.
I am not experienced in this area so I’m trying to figure this out as I go along, but this is getting really tiring. I look at on-line recommendations and then reviews. Accepting the fact that most hosting review sites are host marketing portals, I’ve delved deeper and most of the hosts I started looking at have not only poor honest reviews, but a number of horrible reviews! And the negative reviews are well written, detailed, often emotional and appear very legitimate.
Starting from recommendations and eliminating Godaddy and Hostgator at the onset, (apparently Hostgator was great until a year and half ago when it was sold), I’ve gone through the initially highly recommended by Wordpress Bluehost and Dreamhost, which I’ve read are apparently somehow connected. I’m assuming that these two appear on so many “Top 10” host review portals because they pay a big premium over the other guys for the referrals.
Apparently Bluehost and many of the other “highly recommended” hosts are under the same physical roof and are owned by the same parent which is Endurance International. Some of their brands are Hostgator, Fatcow, ipage, asmallorange, for a total of 15 hosting companies.
I had high hopes for Arvixe and inmotion, until I dug a little deeper and found so many sincere condemning reviews.
You get the idea. Does anyone have a first-hand recommendations for a dependable, responsive and not wildly expensive host? Help!
