First one looks a tiny bit soft, like the bird was moving. Like the crops. Well done Carl.

Thanks John, I didn't want to trade ISO for shutter speed so that probably explains why it is a little soft. He was vocalizing, probably at my dog and I. Another lesson learned.

Hey,

Nice set though does look a little soft, possibly camera shake? Were you shooting from the hip? Or tripod with IS left on by mistake? I'd be curious to see it go through an unsharp pass.

Just my 2 cents.

Used the unsharp mask filter. Amount 150%, radius 2.0 and threshold 2 (based on http://helpx.adobe.com …nts/using/sharpening.html (external link))

Sharpened left, original, right.

I really want to thank you guys for the CC, I had no idea how to do this. I feel like going through some of my old raws to see that I can fix.

When I look at a pic this majestic I cannot look in a discerning way for any photographic anomalies like softness. I'm just too blown away by the abject beauty you've captured.

Great series and for the comparison shot, I like the original way better IMO. Maybe just add a little of sharpening.

I can certainly play with the amount. I chose those levels based on the adobe guide.
