I am going to be selling prints on-site at football and baseball tournaments. I'm curious about what size prints do people who do this sell the most of.

You print 14x11" onsite? Thats what the OP asked

For the junior sports events I cover about 85% of onsite sales 9x6", 10% are 12x8" and the remaining 5% are 7x5" plus photo based products such as keyrings and fridge magnets.

I price so customers are guided towards the 9x6" as these print in seconds.

Fwiw, the smaller sizes are straight prints, whilst the 12x8" are montages which sell at a premium price.

Dont forget to offer a digital only option, I sell a lot of USB sticks, again at a premium price

Yes. And, yes, I can read.

Love your attitude my friend.

The reason I asked is because I know of no current dyesub printer that does a 14x11, which is why I asked the question.

Unless of course you are printing on an inkjet?

The tone of my response stems from your faintly accusatory post about actually printing 11x14's onsite.

And, yes, inkjet. I'm sure that this will stir up a hornet's nest but I've never seen a dye-sub print yet that compares with a quality inkjet print. If they did, then there would be thousands of professional photographers using them to print their small studio portraiture. I know of none, yet most I do know have an inkjet. The ones who do not exclusively use a lab.

Our event business model has never subscribed to churning out masses of small prints at low prices. As a "branch" of and, therefore, a direct reflection of our studio work, our event photography has always aspired to provide quality inkjet prints with good editing, either single images or collages containing up to 9 images on our 11x14's, catering to the well-heeled client. Yes, this takes time but we can also charge a premium for the end result. Our best selling print is an 11x14 that retails for $55, a full $30 more than our base, single image 8x10.

The Epson 2000 we currently use will also handle 13" paper. We are also exploring the feasibility of offering 13x19 B&W fine art prints at our events, probably retailing around $100. These will be targeted more towards the dance groups rather than, say, basketball or hockey.

Think past the box, people. Dye-subs, while a useful tool, are not the be all & end all.

Thanks for answering, that clears things up.

I do have a couple more comments though, a calibrated dyesub print will more than match a C41 print or an inkjet. Most people dont calibrate them though, they just use them straight from the box.

Going back to the OP's question, he will be working outside events and not in the controlled enviroment of your studio or dance events. My personal preference would still be for a dyesub print as the media and ribbon are all contained inside the printer and so the chance of dust or similar getting into the print are smaller.

But thats just me.

The OP noted that he will be working outside events. That does not necessarily mean that he will be printing outside. We've shot numerous outdoor events & were able to view, edit, print indoors nearby.

In addition, printing inside is no guarantee that things will be clean. Dirtiest event for our gear, period, is indoor motocross. We use a printer cover but dirt/dust still gets in. Clean up after one of these events takes several days.
