I shot some more gulls today but i decided to move away for one day from RAW shooting and instead i set my D90 up for some Jpeg shooting, i selected the straight forward standard setting and set up the shadow/highlight recovery tool called ADR.
I put the Jpegs through LR and just added a bit of color and sharpening, apart from that these are sooc Jpegs.

Way do you think?

P.

Thank you so much, i wasn't sure how they would turn out as i have never really rated Jpeg for shooting, and have shot in RAW for about the last two years and 2000 pictures.

There will be days when you get the shot(s) you missed days, months or years before.

I like 1 better -- near full-frame and a plausible natural setting. A catchlight in the eye would have helped, though.

In #2 the bird is looking down (not ideal) and there is a shadow over the eye area of the bird which probably could have been eliminated by waiting for a slight change of angle of the bird's head.

They were both just grab shots really i was just messing about testing the Jpeg engine in the camera instead of the normal Raw i tend to use.
