I snapped a few of these. The light in the room was fairly dim, so I used my hot shoe mounted 430 exII aimed backwards over my left shoulder and bounced flash off a white umbrella about 3 ft away from her face. What can I do to improve this shot/these types of shots?

The picture itself is fine but needs a little lighting help in post processing. I like the warm tones but it is a bit dull. In Photo Shop I added some midtone light & a touch of brightness. Then I lightly sharpened her eyes and mouth. That's it.

Thanks for the tips, and the work-up. I made a mistake and uploaded a jpg that had been saved from my facebook, the original jpg file (saved from PS) was a bit sharper. Oops.

Anyways, I like what you did. I always do try to be careful shooting the redhead/fair skinned crowd because too much light/exposure really can bring out the pastiness. It can be a hard line to stay on. Thanks again!

I like both the original and the touched up, the original just feels a bit more natural which I prefer.

A marked improvement nonetheless. Nice touch up.
