I searched for this but didn't come up with an answer. One of the things that irks me is having the images show up in a quoted post. A really good image is often quoted often and each time the image is reposted. It eats up a lot of thread space and is quite boring to have to see the image over and over again. Just my $0.02.

This is a known problem and will be taken care of in near future. Thanks!

On the flip side of this argument, if I am giving criticism on a photo, I typically quote the photo so people can see exactly what I am talking about. I find that if I am reading such criticism that doesn't quote the photo, I end up having to scroll constantly up and down the page.

And if it happens to be my thread I'm worth quoting and reposting as the photos are always so outstanding.

Opening a second window for the photo is easier.

I can live with one image, but when multiple people, quote posts with multiple images.. it's very annoying.
They don't seem to know how to do a proper (selective)quote, and delete the irrelevant images.

Opening a second window and flipping back and forth between two windows is easier than writing an analysis of an image, or reading one, and scrolling up and down many times to check the words and the picture against each other. If the image and the post about it are on different pages, even scrolling doesn't do the job.

Too few people quote selectively, with or without images. I see this all the time: Post #1 in a thread is a long post consisting of text, let's say four substantial paragraphs, which describes a problem and asks for help. Post #2 is a reply to #1. It begins by quoting the whole thing. Then it gives a recommendation. The recommendation occupies one sentence. As if we couldn't scroll up to remind ourselves what #1's problem was.

People who don't clip when replying waste server space and readers' time.

There are times when it is helpful to have an image included in the quote. For instance, in group sharing threads when many, many photos get posted every day; let's say that someone posted a photo I want to comment on, but since they posted it 2 pages of new photos have been posted. Well, if I want to comment on that photo from two pages back in the thread, it would be really awkward not to have the photo included in my quote; people wouldn't know what I was talking about (or they would have to click on the arrow in the quote in order to be taken back to the post with the photo). A great solution to this would be to give me the ability to include the photo in the quote, but to have the image automatically resized, so that it is just a very small version of the image. This way, people would be able to see what photo I am referring to, but server space would be conserved, and it would not take too long to upload the web page (for those with slow internet connections like me).

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Quoting images will happen like this in AMASS:

Quoted images are resized to fit 90x90 box. They are NOT thumbnailed physically with first version of AMASS, as in most cases the images are already in browser cache and browsers resize really well these days. That is why I still consider if file thumbnailing is really needed.

Number of displayed quoted images is truncated to first 4.

Each quoted image can be clicked to see a "100%" size version.

Pekka, that is an awesome way to manage the quoted photo dilemma. AMASS is going to be incredible!
