On the flip side of this argument, ....

On the double flipside, some posters in the know understand how to selectively edit a quote, in a way that doe not damage the integrity of the initial post, yet does away with lots of needless repetition. :D
But most people just end up quoting the whole thing all the time, and this is where AMASS will come in very handy!

Pekka, that is an awesome way to manage the quoted photo dilemma. AMASS is going to be incredible!

Isn't it? It's examples just like this one where it's as if we all come up with our wishlist, and it turns out Pekka has gone three steps further and knows what we want better than we do!!!

With selective editing of a post the meaning of the post can be altered.

That's why it's important to do the editing thoughtfully.

The system for reducing quoted images won't work for text, will it? Next step: do something about, or to, people who quote a thousand-word post in full and add "LOL."

I can live with one image, but when multiple people, quote posts with multiple images.. it's very annoying.
They don't seem to know how to do a proper (selective)quote, and delete the irrelevant images.

When 8 images get quoted only to read after it 'Nice pics' at the end of it....

Thanks, I'm doing my best! :)

Also, when a quote has nothing else than images, the images are "floated", meaning they are shown next to each other.

I have coded some solutions to that, and I did not like how they looked and felt. excessive long quotes will be handled in some way some day, it's on to do list.

Quoting images will happen like this in AMASS:

Quoted images are resized to fit 90x90 box. They are NOT thumbnailed physically with first version of AMASS, as in most cases the images are already in browser cache and browsers resize really well these days. That is why I still consider if file thumbnailing is really needed.

Number of displayed quoted images is truncated to first 4.

Each quoted image can be clicked to see a "100%" size version.

That sounds awesome. The image is right there, but not overwhelming the thread with pixelly goodness.

Suggestion: "You have quoted a very long post in full. Please click here to donate funds to POTN as compensation for imposing an unnecessary workload on the server." ;)

Long text gets converted into "Lorem ipsum". :). (Who is going to read the long quote in its entirety anyway).

In addition to the serious work of finding problems and bugs as well as recommending changes (not to mention Pekka working his tail off), beta testing was a very pleasurable experience with everybody working together. Being able to see what the end product would look like and how it worked and all of the features, I believe was the fuel that drove the beta testers to get "fully involved" (to use a firefighter expression) in the project.

Pekka, seeing your Marty Feldman avatar (Igor in the movie Young Frankenstein) reminds, did you ever get a chance to watch the movie? Many of the beta testers followed Pekka's lead and adopted a character from the movie as their avatar.
