Just to illustrate the point of how thin the DOF can be, this shot was at f/4 and you can see that with the right eye being ever so slightly out of the plane of the left eye, it is blurred in comparison. At f/2 you can end up with sharp lashes and a blurred iris, or vice versa. You really need to mount the camera on a tripod, use a shutter speed of at least 1/640, ISO 100, and GOOD lighting. Without a controlled setup such as this, there really is no way of identifying or correcting the potential problem.

At 1/2000s is even sharper. Again f/2.5.
