Hi - I hope someone can help. After moving my photos around various drives, pen sticks, work directories  and just about anywhere but my HDD I have finally got an 80GB USB external storage device.

When I look in my PS Elements 3 browser window the images are all there but, as you would expect, the links are broken.

I understand that you can re-connect the links but it just seems to want to do one at a time and generally struggles.

Is there a way that I can delete the browser images and then tell PSE to index all of the files on the USB drive? Or is there a better way?

All help and suggestions greatfully appreciated.

Thanks!

Unless you actually saved the tags to the image before moving them there are no easy way of reconecting.
In the future i suggest you move the files from inside organizer, this will retain connection.

I think I've licked it.

Press CTRL+A in the organiser window and then press the DEL key. NOTE: Do NOT tick the box that says DELETE FROM HARD DRIVE AS WELL. Just to avoid any mishaps I also unplugged the external USB drive that all of my photos are on as well!

Once they've been deleted open up PSE and click FILE>GET PHOTOS and then choose either a location or folder.

HTH
Cheers

EOS - I've seen that TAGS in the FILE menu and wondered what they were. I understand how meta tage are used to speed up searches but what and how do you use it in PS?

Cheers

Tags are like categories or keywords you assign to each image to make categorisation or sorting easier... you can set up any custom heirarchy of categories and tags you like, and search by inclusion or exclusion. Each image can have many tags. If I get chance tomorrow wil post a creenshot of mine so you can see what I mean. Hope this helps

Here's an example of how I organise my tags, it appears (as hemuni says) that you can actually embed this tag data in into the file IPTC which I didnt realise...

The catalogue (including the tag data) is saved as a separate file.

Ah-Ha! Nice one - I see what it's all about now. I think I'll start adding these before the list starts to get too big.

Thanks for posting them
