Hi all,

A simple question (probably!).

If I am in spot mode, av, flash it ettl, will the flash expose differently than if I'm in a different metering mode? For example, if I spot meter someone's face, which is darker than the surrounding area, will the flash just expose the face correctly?

Thanks in advance

David

The flash metering mode is switchable between ETTL and CW Average, depending on your camera age average might be more reliable. You also have the option of Flash Exposure Lock.

But, to answer your actual question; No, the ambient meter mode doesn't affect the flash output.

Switchable, for Flash algorithm, within the camera's flash menu (old bodies, as a CFn) - separate from the ambient metering pattern top-plate button.

And FEL forces a central spot (or cam's nearest to 'spot') metered pre-flash & lock (default 16secs).

To answer your question, "No the camera mode doesn't effect the flash exposure mode".

The flash itself has a mode that you can change that affects the flash exposure method, but that another story and has nothing to do with camera exposure mode.
