I'm upgrading from a 40d and mainly shoot high school sports, with the occasional land scape stuff. Football and baseball are the priority though. I will never have a lens over 300mm.

Everything in my gut says 1D all day. My only concern is I can't get a new camera every other year, so what ever I choose will have to carry me through about four or five years. The 1d would be used and the 6d new if that matters.

Which one do you think you should buy?

Personally I would go 1D as it's designed to do exactly what you want.

I don't think the 6d would be quick enough for football

I owned both the 6D and the 1DIV at the same time. They both are great at different things. If sports are your priority the get the 1DIV.

I ended up selling both to get the 1DX, best of both worlds in the one body.

There are plenty of good used 1DIV's around, with the build quality of the 1 series cameras I don't think you'll have to worry too much about it being good for four or five more years.

The 1D4 fits your goals quite nicely, and will take any abuse you throw at it for the next 4-5 years. The 6D will be adequate at sports, but the 1D4 will excel at it. Do you want to be adequate at your photographic endeavor, or be excellent at it?

Heya,

1DIV hands down. Sports requires robust autofocus that is fast. The 1DIV has that. It also has very good ISO performance, so you're not missing anything there. The rest falls nicely into the sensor of the 1D series regardless of what you're shooting. But for action as a big part of why you're getting the camera, you'll want this over the 6D.

Very best,

Sports and a question between 1dmk4 and 6d. If it was 1dmk4 and 5dmk3, I can understand somewhat.

As much as I love my 6D, it is not a sports camera.

I was leaning towards to 1d and everyone's suggestions confirmed it. I guess I was more worried about taking a "older" camera for several years.

Thanks everyone
