A few more mixed bag shots.

I think this was a queen wasp because it was a LOT bigger than the normal size wasps, or maybe a different species to the common wasp. I printed out an A4 sheet of paper with a pink colour, stuck it to a piece of card and placed it behind one of the pink hydrangea blooms.

A wonderful set of pics. Really like the Myathropa Florea shot. That pink card works a treat - I have never used anything as a background before but I am really liking the ones I have seen where people use this technique. I always felt it a bit false doing this in a natural habitat but it certainly does enhance the subject.

This hydrangea shrub is in a darkish corner of the garden so the main light source is flash and I knew the bg would come out black because there is nothing behind it, so I put the card in place to stop that from happening. I suppose I'm a photographer first, naturalist second. :)
