Not a Lightrules moment - you did a mistake and directly spotted it instead of repating the action a second or third time wondering why you got so unexpected result.

I've got a G11 with a scratched front element, its a common feature on the G's with the sliding covers. Only in certain light does it become an issue, but it is an issue.

Funny! I just now saw the typo in my original post

That front element probably would cost a good $800 or so to replace or more.
It's probably not worth it considering the scratches are unlikely to have any impact on a photo.

Surely everyone has seen this but it is worth noting anyways...

Actually, I am not around POTN much these days. Been busy with "life" and family and all that good stuff. But when I pop-in to POTN, I have this sadistic urge to search my name and of course, there's usually some reference to the "40D Debacle".

A Lighty moment this? Hardly. Placing a lens down in gravel? Even with cap on! Maybe if one is missing a hand due to a birth defect or accident. I had to check calendar to see if it was April 1st.

Is it just me that puts on extenders by holding the lens that's getting the extender in one hand while twisting on the extender with the other? I could see if you had A 500 or 600 why you'd want to put it lens front element down

Accidents happen. I like to think I am careful with my gear but have had to spend money on repairs due to "operator error". If your pictures suffer from the scratches, bite the bullet and have it fixed. You probably learned a lesson and won't do it again.

No, but which hand holds the camera?

I'm on a tripod, in the 'field' and don't want to get dust into the camera. It might be windy, if I leave the camera on the tripod it's going to get crap in it. So I want to keep the camera pointing down at all times during a lens change.

I figured this might evolve (and might still) into a lens-changing discussion. Whatever you are doing, don't think I am doing something better. Nor are you going to change the way I change lenses, it is specific to me, but for a variety of reasons that I've leaned over many years - including the fact that I am actually a bit of a klutz anyway. I would drop lenses all over the place if I changed them the way most people do.

Plus this was a complete f**k-up on my part anyway and I deviated from my normal routine too.
