Over the course of the next year I will be undertaking an adventurous mission to visit and photograph each of the 50 states. My goal is to do this in one year spending appropriate amounts of time and the appropriate time of year in each location if at all possible. I will be visiting all different types of locations from remote deserts and snow covered peaks to huge metropolitan cities or washed up ghosttown remnants. Whatever each state has best to offer, I’m going to attempt to capture it’s beauty, it’s intrigue, it’s history. I’m going to try and capture it’s soul and tell it’s stories.

I will be doing this on my own, with nothing more than what I can take with me. No support crew, no entourage, no help. This will not be a glamorous trip with bed and breakfasts and spa days. No, this will be roadside living, rough camping and generally putting everything out there at all times, in order to experience as much as possbible and I hope to document it as best that I can.

I plan to spend time in each state, not only to find the most interesting and beautiful things to photograph and videograph, but I hope to blend into the evironment as much as possible and hope to get a chance to truly experience all the different cultures that make this country great.

Through photography, video and timelapse; I hope to share with you, a unique glimpse into the history, culture and social impact of each state and region of the this glorious land.

I hope that you follow along with me on this modern adventure to discover, explore and expose the United State of America in unusual light and using unnorthodox methods. I hope that I can tickle your eyeballs with some of the beauty this great land offers and maybe entertain you with some of the encounters and obstacles I’ll have to overcome in doing so.

Stay tuned as I am now underway.

- Todd

Most people don't even hit all 50 in a lifetime. Cool project and experience for you.

Best of luck with your journey!
Go to 4 corners. 1 picture, 4 states, BOOM! ;)

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Thanks guys! I'm really excited about this. I've sold everything I own, downsized into my car and a small trailer that I will be traveling and living out.

I decided that I am going to make a real run at becoming a professional photographer and I couldn't think of a better way to do it.

Wish me luck!

Wow, living the dream. Roadside living on a shoestring sounds amazing to me. I am a big admirer of your work. Looking forward to you first pictures, if you can't make it as a full time pro then no one can. All the best :)

Hot damn, I wish I could go too.

I also wish I could afford to take a year off work...

Best of luck on your ambitious journey Todd. If you haven't read it yet, you might enjoy reading John Steinbeck's "Travels with Charley: In Search of America" along the way.

Todd,

I've also enjoyed your posts to date... great stuff. I'm not sure how you'll divide your time. Some states are more scenic than others. Some states will require more than one week to even get a feel for them. Others, not so much, though this shows my personal bias, of course. ;)

An example: Eastern Montana is miles and miles of non-scenery but Western Montana can leave you speechless at times.

I am sure you'll have an amazing time. I hope your dreams come to fruition, that you are able to make your hobby a successful business. May your photographs find a market.
