My 7D has been in a case connected to my 500 f4 for about 6 weeks now, and I just took it out and attached a different lens to it to take some newborn pictures of my 2 week old son. I attached my 10-22mm and it would not autofocus. Switched on the kit lens and no auto focus. I took out the battery and put it back in, checked the button on the lens, reset to factory settings...no good. This is terrible timing. Is there anything I can do? I guess I will have to send it to Canon....anybody dealt with this before? How much $$ am I looking at if the autofocus is broken?

Also I should note that it seems like the lenses do not go on as easily as before, there seems to be some extra friction when turning it to attach.

Help!

Did you accidentally switch it to back button focus?

Might just be a bit of crud on one of the gold pins that connect to the lens to the body. Giving them a wipe with a dry cloth might help.

I assume the camera focused when the 500mm lens was attached. Did you try put the 500 back on and see if that one still works?

What drive mode are you using? If its on AI Servo, you won't get the beep or the focus point lighting red.

This! I gave them a quick wipe and it started working again. Whew. I about had a heart attack.

Between the camera drama and my son crying the whole time I tried to get him to lay in the basket I decided I better let someone with experience take his newborn photos lol...so I tapped out and messaged a girl I know who does really good newborn pics. She has a studio and told me to bring my camera and I could snap some while she worked as well...should be good practice.
