these were captured in Singapore :) busy little guys, they were hunting non stop for about 3-4 hours. Managed to get some shots of them bringing food to the nest but do not see any chicks yet.

thanks guys!

the bird is pretty small and I am surprised at the choice of the size of meals it kept bringing. The irony of it all is that fish was not on the menu, it was either centipedes, praying mantises or huge grasshoppers.

the last picture the adult was confused as the juvenile was nowhere to be found in the nest. LOL lighting was really bad at the nest unfortunately. :(

Very interesting shots of a beautiful bird. Our belted kingfishers are cavity nesters too and are supposed to excavate a tunnel into a bank. But with our clay, shallow soils over bedrock, I wonder how they do it and I wonder if they might not sometimes use tree cavities as do yours.
