All right, for a month I've been pretty messed up because I've had to prepare for some surgery, and have been going through some pretty messy stuff...including a couple hospital visits...Ok, fine, I got home yesterday...

OK, fine, but then I saw that someone who I have considered gosh, not just a friend but a brother and even more, has died, suffering from bi-polar disorder, he took his own life, Robin Williams...I'm heart-broken...

Robin Williams brought so much joy to the world with his talent and intelligent humor! Sad to hear he will never act again.

Flubber, Jack, Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire...still can't believe one of my favorite childhood actors is gone. Life is too short.

I'm gonna watch Flubber tonight. That little green blob!

He was a great performer.

That said, i generally don't lose sleep when people i don't know, pass away. I feel bad for his family though.

Guess I'm cold hearted.

I thought this was going to be an amusing thread. Now I'm sad :(

Best to you Tony in your surgery and recovery.

As for Robin, tremendous loss. Until I recently read a column written by Dick Cavett which gave a bit of insight, I just could never understand how someone who has a loving family could take their own life, how they could leave their wife and children. Dick Cavett said at that moment they just don't feel, feel anything any longer. Very sad.

A close friend of mine's brother committed suicide. Had two young kids he loved. The depths of depression that can drive someone to that must be just horrible.

Jon Carroll, longtime columnist for the SF Chronicle, recently wrote about his own bout with clinical depression. Worth reading for a victim's insight into the disease.
