I'm only just starting to learn how to use my new Celestron Advanced VX EDGE HD 8" telescope (surely the longest name ever!), and last night had a go at photographing Comet Jacques, as it enters the northern sky. I'm still someway off getting a really good polar alignment, so I was limited to quite short exposures. This is a stack of 8 x 8-second light frames, with no darks, flats, or anything, taken at the f/10 prime focus with the 5D MkII at ISO6400. I only cropped the edges to get rid of stacking artefacts. Limiting magnitude is about 15.4.

Nice work, btw you need to use full name for your scope, here is mine "Celestron EdgeHD 800 CGEM Schmidt-Cassegrain "

You picked the Advanced VX mount over my CGEM , how is that portability and stability?

CGEM: Total Telescope Kit Weight 88 lbs (40 kg)
I can't find total weight of your rig..... I'm curious as mines a beast to move in/out with countererweight and all

Thanks Mike, yes I guess your mount will be sturdier, though the Advanced VX seems pretty good. Total weight for mine is 60lbs. It still needs four trips in and out to get it all set up (tripod, head, counter weight, and tube) but it's easily manageable. I'd rather do it that way than try to carry the whole thing assembled. Maybe I'll try it sometime just to see how easy or hard it is.
