Hello,
For those that use software to turn their images into digital paintings, what program(s) do you use? The software suggestions I am looking for are those that do the painting for you. However, you are able to change the parameters giving you input into the process and the final look of the photo-art.
I would like comments from people who are using the software and why they like it. When it comes to painting, I would enjoy the final outcome without needing the talent to paint it myself, I have enough frustration in my life already....lol. Thank you.

With Painter, and likely any other application that you will be using for painting and artistic pixel creation, you will likely need a pressure sensitive tablet to take full advantage of the features in these applications.

Here's what is Painter is typically used for to turn a digital photo or scan into a painting:

part of this is the "Auto-Painting" feature that will emulate the media and tool (paint brush, pencil, etc.) with some pretty sophisticated technology to paint a picture from a digital photograph. You can then go back and paint in and refine the auto paint result. Plus it is fun to watch Painter paint a picture for you.

That is pretty amazing!
Curious......Why would someone turn a digital photo into a painting? Are they having it printed onto a canvas or are there other reasons?

I was at Whistler a few weeks ago and there were a number of photo galleries, all displaying beautiful mountain / skiing photos. The gallery that really stood out of the pack and just happen to have way more people at it was one displaying basically the same type of mountain prints, but converted to look like paintings.

Sometimes being different is being better.

You could also try the free program "FotoSketcher". I've used the earlier version occasionally and like how it works.

Free is good. After the good comments for Corel Painter I thought it might be fun to maybe get it and see what I can do with it, but at a list price of $429 I can't justify it. I'll definitely try out FotoSketcher.
