This kingfisher landed on its perch ( regrettably, the sun was in my face), and decided to take a bite at the branch.....no idea why.

This was the best I could do ..... I asked him to turn a bit so the sun would light him better ...

I do see what you mean, Ian. I am forever thankful that both by my pond and down by the lake I have the sun at my back. If I faced south, I'd have to take up another hobby.

Yeah, facing south was exactly where I was. Plus it was morning. At least later in the day the sun swings around a bit and the light is a bit better. But then I have to time it so the tide is almost out or just starting in, which is when they fish. Ah well!

Perhaps he was trying to perfect this stick so it goes better with his hairdo. Great shots Ian.

Very nice Ian. Maybe trying to clean his bill or improving his view and flight path?

Wonderful shots Ian, good work with the contrast level there.

I wonder if he was cleaning his beak on the branch or something.

Thanks Carol, Rog and Lester....yep, I'd guess likely cleaning his bill, albeit in an unusual way.
