So a bunch of you know that Ihad a little shock when shooting with video in daylight the other day.

I had setup the 5D mkii at f/1.4 but couldnt get the shutter speed below 1/800 (I was shooting out in the sun at noon).

So you guys suggested an ND filter.

I picked up a marumi filter (external link) & did some some testing yesterday.

I used my 35L at f:1/.4, 24FPS, 1/50 shutter speed and rotated the filter till the exposure was just right.

I think its still choppy and jittery.

Can someone advise on how it looks?

thanks

Put the camera on a tripod and try again.

But it will help determine the true cause of your jitters.
In the video you post it looks like it's come from you working handheld.

Moppie, true.

I guess I'd need to drive the bike to see movement.

I guess I'd need to drive the bike to see movement.

Or just point the camera at some traffic, or run in front of it, or anything else moving.

Ok, let's day it turns out it's not the camera, it's my movement.

How do I resolve that? I'm not a ballerina...

Plus the Merlin steadicam2 is not justifiable for my needs.

I want to be able to shoot video with the 5dmkii once in a while.

Put your camera on a tripod, don't spread its legs and hold it vertically, grabbing the head, focus with the other hand. It won't be perfect, but it will eliminate most of the high frequency jitters due to holding it just with your hands. More weight = steadier filming. And while walking, be careful how you take your steps ( heel to toe, slowly ).
Hope this helps :)

I don't know, maybe built-in stabilization, or different shutter speed ;) And it's easier to hold a smart-phone compared to a bulky DSLR, more natural, I really don't know.

Use a lens with IS is the first/more expensive suggestion.

Use a viewfinder is the second/cheaper suggestion. A viewfinder on the LCD will help you with focus and exposure, but it will also provide another contact point on the camera (so you will have 3 instead of 2) which will make it steadier.

A monopod is an option that will keep you steadier when still, or provide you a simple "shoulder rig" when on the move (used with a ball head).
