was wondering if anyone had any experience of shooting with this lens or the 50-250 version in a boxing or similar sport where lowish light levels would be an issue. i have taken still pics at these sort of events but now want to video them without breaking the bank. lighting will be an issue as i will be away from the ring on a stage so. need a cheap zoom lens to couple with my 70d. price wise looking at upto £300

thanks in advance

Yes. It is awesome! IQ on par with 15-85 but better range. Sharp on all focal lenghts and apertures.

I use a 18-135mm STM for videos on my 700D. Excellent image quality.

Even in dull light this lens is pretty good. Shoot your video in manual mode at 25 fps, shutter speed of 1/50th, auto ISO (or if the lighting is consistent which it will probably will be, meter the scene by manually select the ISO) and use full aperture on the lens. Manually focus if you can. You can also experiment with higher shutter speeds if light levels allow.

By the way, the 18-135mm STM is very very good at full aperture.

I have not used it for sports but have used it for a variety of action shots while travelling. I love it. I played with the 18-55 STM on my SL1 but felt it left me short. I also used various L's from my collection but too heavy for the balance. I decided on the 18-135 STM and it is a keeper in my opinion. Lightweight-great range (on a crop) and excellent quality.

I have also used it on my EOS M with Canon adapter and find that it works well in that scenario as well.

Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

I own the 15-85 and love it, but I hear the 18-135 IS STM to be very close with more range. If I didn't have the 15-85 I would be very tempted to look at the 18-135 just by the reviews I've seen.

I grabbed one myself for the wife and liked it so much I found out that I needed one myself. Instead of fighting each other for the lens. .Both on e-bay for 275 each.

That lens was built to be the 70D's kit lens, they pair really well. Video is also more forgiving for low light, you can have shutter speeds down to the frame rate you are recording (1/30s) and it will still look natural, and the "noise" just looks like film grain for the most part.
