I currently own a Canon 60D with a 70-300 L series that I use mainly for motorsport photography. Looking to maybe upgrade to a 6D. Would this be a good upgrade or should I keep saving to upgrade higher. Any help/opinions greatly appreciated.

Tough call since you'll lose reach and cross type AF points for better overall IQ and ISO ability. For motor sports? I'd be looking at 7D, 5d3, 1d4, etc

Whats more important, ISO performance or AF performance? I think that will be one of the big determining factors.

Look at a used 1D mark 3. They can be had for about $900-1000 and would be great for motor sports.

Get the 7D now and keep saving for about a year for something else.

There is another option, Next month Canon is supposedly announcing the replacement for the 7D at Photokina. That's just a couple weeks away. It might be worth waiting to see what this new camera brings. Hopes are high that Canon is going to launch some revolutionary sensor.

Going to a bigger format is not an 'upgrade'. Both formats have their place in the world of photography, and they each have their pros and cons.

The 6D has a lower pixel density than the 60D, and therefore offers less telephoto reach. So you would probably be better off with the 60D.

Does it?
I have moved progressively from 1.6 to 1.3 crop (1D4) to full frame (1DX) and I have lost very little (if any) reach. My 1DX puts significantly lower pixel density than my 1D4 did yet it still gives more detailed images when cropped to the same field of view. Additionally the extra low light performance is very helpful, for example 6 hours ago my friend was struggling to maintain an adequate shutter speed with his Canon 1D4 + F4 lens when I was happily snapping away at 1/1600th with an F 5.6 lens and getting better images - subjects were small songbirds. Even my old 5D Mk1 gave up little or no reach to my 20D back in the day.
The only advantage to an APSC format camera is that the bodies and lenses are cheaper and lighter - these two factors can be very significant but reach is not an issue.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Wait for canon to announce the 7d mk 2 and see where they price it.

I would jump on a 7D now, before the 2 is announced. (That is, if you decided against FF)

The market seems pretty saturated with people dumping their 7D's and prices are rock bottom on used. Likely they will rise again when the 7Dii comes out, and the price is $1600+. You can find the original for less than half that at the moment. If you don't like the 7D, you can resell it for no loss or slight profit and be all the wiser.

That's just what I'd do anyways.
