I had a T3i (w/ Tamron 17-50 and 90 macro) a few years ago but sold it and picked up a Fuji X10. It's been great but has it's limitations for sure. I plan on keeping the X10 for when I want something light but am thinking about maybe picking up another SLR. I would love a Fuji XE2 or XT1 but it's not in the budget. I thought about a used 60D for a while but have decided against it because of the size.

I am able to get a 'new' T3i from Canon with the 18-55 IS kit lens for $399. I would sell the kit lens and get another Tamron 17-50. I'm curious why the T3i is still being offered for sale when you rarely see the T4i. Was it a better camera? I'm thinking that since I don't care about a touch screen that I would opt for the T3i over the T5i.

Is the T3i still considered a good performer?

The main reason you don't see many T4i's is due to the T5i. I think there are almost identical and since the 5 came out so shortly after the 4, I think they just stopped making the 4's. This is complete speculation on my part. I have a T3i and still use it even with my 6D as my primary body. It suits my crop needs and isn't really a bad camera. That price is pretty good, I would jump on it if I did not already have that body.

The main factors will be your ability and vision as a photographer.

The T4i had an issue with the leather grip causing it to turn white and giving some users skin irritation. They had a recall. But that is why the T5i came a lot sooner and almost identical.

Yep. The T4i was discontinued, the T5i is the actual "redo". That's why when you look on Canon's product page you see the T3i and T5i but not the T4i.
