Elv, if the battery is run down can you plug it in and shoot with them plugged in? I was ready to pull the trigger on one Einstein and Vegabond mini but I could get two of these and so I'm still on the fence. And how long does it take to charge? Thanks.

No unfortunately it says in the manual not to use the strobe with the battery charger plugged in.

That's pretty common with these type of battery powered lights though. You would need a second battery to be charging while the other is being used.

I haven't fully charge it yet, but its usually around 2-3 hours for something like this.

Hard to pass up at $399 for portable power!! Should have mine Tuesday to test out.

Waiting for someone like Yongnou that has the firmware and boards for ETTL to finally put the capability into something like this.

But it's not just the software, right? The strobe would have to be able to pre-flash. Can strobes do that, or is their recycle time too slow?

I just bought a VML and am now trying to decide between one of these (again) and the CL-360 (again). I'm leaning towards the 360 for sheer portability but the 600W/s is so tempting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Rovelight is almost twice as bright, right? And also, the CL-360's portability is compromised by the battery pack. I love how the Rovelight needs no cables at all. My primary use for it will be to overpower the sun, so the portability is very attractive to me.

Your right it's 300 vs 600 w/s. The Rovelight is porable but the weight is quite diferent. The Rovelight weighs in at 6lbs and the 360 is 1.7lbs.

True about the weight, I was concerned about that... but then I figured that the weight is actually a good thing, makes it more stable on a good lightstand.

Its considerably more than twice as bright in most modifiers. I get 1.8 stops over, in a Phottix Luna octobox.

And 0.8 stops over the Godox RS600P.

(Its similar in other softboxes, using the Luna a number of people have been able to confirm similar results with exactly the same softbox/modifier though).


And not only that, the HSS mode is more usable than the AD360 because there is no limit to shots, and you don't really need to worry about turning the HSS mode off, as it only looses 0.2 stops if left on (full power is no loss or change).

Here is a direct comparison between the RoveLight RS-600, Godox RS600P, and Godox AD360, at x-sync and in HSS at 1/1000th.

Its not easy to see like this, but I was getting 0.8 stops between the RoveLight and RS600P, and a further 1 stop down to the Witstro (1.8 stops total).

can someone educate me about the mount options? I'm normally a speedlight only shooter. So the bowens mount only works with bowens modifiers? What about the non-descript mount? What can I stick on there?
Am I limited to those options only?

Thanks Elv. Well, that's interesting. Now the question is, What's the true effective wattage of RS600? Based on the samples, looks like it's about 500W unit.

So... I just got mine, but I can't get the remote to work. It triggers optically just fine though. I'm trying to get thru to Adorama, but they're quite busy it would seem.
