hey guys, sorry to bring this HSS issue up again, but can someone please clarify if my understanding is correct?

the purpose of adding a PC hot shoe is just to retain a clean "package," right? I technically can have a single YN-622C on the camera, and a sync cable without the hotshoe mount just hanging off the side of the camera and still be able to achieve HSS?

No Eryk.
You need to the the trigger (transmitter) on the camera's hotshoe. Then you have to have the receiver connected to the flash with the sync cable. the transmitter needs the info from the hotshoe connection in order to send the pre sync command to the flash.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I figured the signal went from camera -> yn-622c -> then through the sync cable to the flashpoint trigger to get the pre-sync signal -> which is then transmitted to the rovelight.

Sorry if I didnt word it clearly, but what I meant to ask is, I dont need

that whole assembly right? I can just use a cable and have the flashpoint trigger hang off to the side as it is getting its pre-sync signal through the cable?

Stupid question/idea, but if you gonna have cable long enough to reach the yn-622c that sit on top of the camera and act as a transmitter, would connecting the sync cable directly to the camera(not transmitter) works? I means, most semi/pro dSLR have sync port also, right?

If you want to use a single 622C, you need to use the included Rovelight trigger as well. The 622C only passes the HSS along out of it's sync port and not its hotshoe. The Rovelight trigger doesn't have a sync port to receive the signal which is why you will will need the pc cable to hotshoe adapter. A cleaner solution is to use a Cells 2 trigger which does pass the HSS out its hotshoe.

Got a chance to take the Rovelight out for an photo session. Fotodiox 36" Octobox. Really liking the light. Hate the remote.

Used mine this past weekend also! Four hours at 1/16 power and constant shooting and the battery still reads a full charge!

I have been using/testing the Rove for use in outdoor commercial sessions. I normally use Einsteins in studio, but for situations with high ambient light outdoors the HSS feature meets my needs.
