This one Rovelight was placed outside close as I could get it to the rain-gutter, to create sun on a cloudy day.

Was this a few shots with the RL or only one with the strobe. Beautiful shot. Did you white balance before hand?

Thanks Keano12. I think I put some light on the interior by flashing ceiling/wall close to the windows over there. I then flashed the joint to the right of the fireplace and used that frame to mask myself out from the main window light flash. THEN i went outside and did the sunbeams, which were just laid over the previous layers and set to lighten blend mode.

I would like to color correct these more methodically, but I shoot 30 of them in a couple of hours so it is hard. I just light them and deal with what I think are the "correct" or best looking color temps later. This one I left warmer because it felt better to me.

So I got my ODS timing to improve my HSS flash output, but I still see a noticible gradient shooting on a white background. Brightest at the bottom. In addition, I took it outside and shooting at f2.8, ISO 100 with the Phottix Luna approximately 5' from me, I still needed 1/2 power to get a decent exposure - and this wasn't high noon. I'd hoped for a little more output than that. Not to mention after controlling the Odins from the camera for 2 years, I must say this remote interface is horrible. I dont want to have to take the light down to adjust or see power... This may be getting returned for the Indra simply because of the seemless interface. I don't have time to be messing around, turning on the remote everytime I want to blindly adjust power.

Is the Indra any better at high speed sync? As far as output power? Based on the power of the Rovelight at or below sync, I really thought the HSS power output would be better. I've survived using speedlights until now so I'm sure some real life use is needed to see if it's adequate.

Are you shooting in IGBT or regular Full power? I have seen good results in full power not in the IGBT. She didn't want to be there. She was annoyed lol.
This was Indra 500:
Sky registered at F11, 100, 1/200.
First is 1/1600, F4.5, ISO:100 under exposing by 1 stop. Then switched it to TTL.

Second:
1/4000, 125, F4

Heya,

So I bought the Rovelight 600B from Adorama. The Bowens mount version. Looked brand new in every way.

Doesn't power on.

I can't even trouble shoot it. I charged the battery per the instructions. It shows a green light on the charger. I put it in the RoveLight, and press and hold the power button and .... nothing. Not even a blink on the LCD. Nothing at all. So I can't tell if it's the unit, the battery or the fuse, or what.

Thoughts? Anyone experience this and know a fix?

Anything more specific than a typical 20A rated fuse to know, as that's something I could try at least.

I can't believe I'm already having to either return or whatever this thing. Super disappointing.

Update: Got off the phone with Flashpoint support (they responded quickly to my email which is nice), went through all the obvious stuff that I already checked out, looks like I'm just going to have to return the whole unit. And of course, Bowen's mount is low stock and will probably be delayed. Sigh...

Very best,

So far I have been disappointed in my Indra's and pleasantly surprised with the 600B to where I have ordered a second one. In my testing I am getting about 1 1/2 stops more flash output from the 600B than from the Indra at 1/1 power. Set your ODS timing to 2.0 or 2.5 when using the 600B in HSS. I am getting about a 1 stop difference in flash output between using 0.0 as opposed to 2.5 ODS timing. Put your Rovelight transmitter in an Odin receiver and keep it close so that you can easily adjust the flash power on the 600B from it. It is actually much faster to adjust flash power with the Rovelight transmitter than adjusting flash power on an Indra through the Odin menu. In order to get max flash output from the Indra you need +3 FEC dialed into the Indra and some ODS timing dialed in as well even though the Indra uses pulsed flash to achieve HSS. Without the +3 FEC and Odin ODS timing for the Indra I am getting about a 2 stop difference in flash output between the 600B and Indra at 1/1 power.

Update: I had a little time to do a quick test outside with the Indra and 600B using the same reflector, a PCB Omni. Results were a little closer than by using their respective 7" reflectors while messing about indoors. I had about a 2/3 stop difference in flash output rather than the 1 1/2 I mentioned previously. In order to achieve this I had to use +3 FEC in the Indra which then raised the overall flash exposure. The 600B has a broader flash range between 1/16 - 1/1 power than does the Indra and the power transition is smoother between each 1/3 stop of flash power.

Not sure I understand why you do this? How does it help?

The Odin receiver triggers the Rovelight transmitter which triggers the 600B in HSS. Keep it close so you can make power adjustments with the transmitter.

Someday one of these generic manufacturers will figure out a generic or removeable mount system and they'll make a mint.

Rand - won't this work just as well if I attach the Odin receiver to the Rovelight and just keep the Rovelight transmitter in my pocket for adjustments. That seemed to work fine the other day.

One more from Saturday with the Rovelight and a Sony A7II.

That is how I use my RL as well on YN trigger. Considering how junky RL trigger is, I rather not have it as part of the shooting. It could misfire as the trigger decided to have a nap time. I don't know about Odin receiver, but is it possible that the HSS timing adjustment won't work(well) if the light hooked up via PC port?

If that works I wouldn't change but I did not have a cable to attach the receiver to the strobe. With your method, if you have multiple 600B's then you would need multiple receivers but with my method I need only one receiver and currently I have only one Odin receiver.

Got it - seems like a good alternative.
