Ah thanks. I was just using one 622 on my camera and the 600 tx on top of that.

So I should be instead just using the 622 as a wireless trigger, on both end.. with sync cable into the strobe.

I could then just keep the stock TX in my pocket for adjusting the power, etc.

D

Correct!

YN622 with pc sync cable into Rovelight.

On camera, just the YN622.

Keep the stock transmitter in your pocket just to change power level remotely if you need to. I don't even do that anymore, since it doesn't display a value on an LCD, a couple of pocket presses and it's all over the place. I just manually do it until they produce a good transmitter or remote with an LCD at this point.

Works without any special settings on anything even with my ancient camera(s) with old YN622's.

I've ordered a sync cable. I was assuming I just needed the 622 to 'trick' the camera into allowing high shutter speeds.

I look forward to trying it out.

Thanks,
D

You can trick it but the Rovelight TX has to be connected to the yn622 by a hotshoe to pc cable connector. That being said it's not super reliable because of the weak distance of the Rovelight TX.

That is exactly what I will have to do with the streaklight I just bought from adorama on sale. The new streaklights will have all this ettl and HSS built in, thus the sale on the older model.

So the Rovelight is working fine now in HSS. I called Adorama and they told me if the unit has problems, I have one year warranty.

Just did a gig for a high school dance team and was doing HSS ... pretty awesome. It was outdoor in beautiful morning ambient light under a shade with little rays of light hitting the hair and acting as a kicker. Just used the Rovelight as fill with a white bounce umbrella..... works like a charm.

I wish the Rovelight comes with a remote that has a display in it so you can actually know how much power you are using. So you don't have to glance at the unit's screen to check.

Will be using it for high school soccer teams and some basketball teams next week.... we will see.

I'm really liking this unit.

Can I confirm this with anyone?

I'm waiting for a PC Sync cable to arrive.. In the meantime, I'm experimenting. (maybe this is operation correctly.. let me know)

With a 622 on camera and the stock receiver on top of that, triggering the 600.. I get black bands shooting above 1/200
With 622 on camera and stock receiver on top of 2nd 622 receiver.. I still get black bands.

Essentially, I want to confirm that this is all correct.. and that only a sync cable from the receiving 622 will allow proper hypersync.
So far, anything else I've tried doesn't work.

Thanks!

Using the way you are doesn't do anything.

You could just put the stock trigger on the camera, leave the YN622 out of it, and shoot normal sync speed, but not HSS, etc, only sync speed. You're getting bands because you're using higher than sync speed without HSS capability.

Using the YN622, you have one on camera, and one on the Rovelight via a pc sync cable. Leave the stock trigger out of it. This allows normal sync speed, and HSS speeds.

You don't need to mix the stock trigger & YN622 at all.

that sounds like your HSS is not working or your camera . What camera do you have?
The canon 6D has an option to enable or disable HSS

He's trying to use higher than sync speed without a YN622 cabled to the Rovelight, so he cannot employ HSS using the stock transmitter. He's just hooking a YN622 to the stock transmitter and putting a YN622 on his camera and raising it above sync speed and noting that he's not able to sync past sync speed (the black bands are his shutters). That's not carrying the pre-sync signal. This is why the YN622 on the Rovelight must be roped in via a pc sync cable.

As soon as he has a pc sync cable, he'll be in business.

well..... sounds like the unit I have been using is pretty defective then. Will call Adorama to replace it.

Did this get resolved? If not, please let me know; Helen@adorama.com
