What you need to hook bowen mount to Alien Bees compatible speedrings?

^^^ I was wondering the same thing because I am planning on getting a couple of Einsteins but the HSS and built in battery on the Rove is appealing...but I would want to be able to use the same softboxes on either unit.

24 hour sale at Adorama. Rovelight with Bowens mount. $399.95

Thinking about real bad. Just picked up the Streaklight and haven't had a chance to go out yet :(

Dammit, I took the bait, and I'm anxiously awaiting delivery.

Congrats. That's a mighty fair price.

I, too, am looking to purchase this unit for the hss capability and use with my yn622 triggers.

To my understanding, to use this unit with the softbox I have: http://www.amazon.com …=oh_aui_search_detailpage (external link)

I need the bowens mount with this adapter: http://www.adorama.com/BZRD6210.html (external link)

Or do I just need this speedring?

I haven't used any strobes yet. I have just been ganging up speedlights so I am out of my element here.

Yes, it should be simple - but there are catches. Firstly most, but definitely not all, Speedrings accept Inserts or Adapters (US) with a flange with a max diameter of 6 inches (153 mm). First check your Speedring, but I think that Fotodiox s'box does accept a 6 in flange/insert/adapter.

Then you desire optimum light spread within the modifier, so you want the Rovelight's flash-tube to protrude as much as possible within the S'box. To achieve that, you want either a shallow front-to-back dimension (eg 35 mm) on your insert - or - one which opens out in a cone shape. Personally, I went with the former.

Your speedring will differ (this is a 'Luna'), but the insert should be close to this:

This is my speedring. I am figuring that the center part fits the alienbees as that is what I ordered at the time. I haven't been using it at all because I use a four flash bracket to gang my flashes instead. Your softbox looks like it'd be easier to work with. :/

I just realized that I didn't link this speedring option above. http://www.amazon.com …keywords=bowens+speedring (external link) Is this basically the same thing I have but will fit the bowens version of the rovelight, correct?

Hi, That particular insert looks as if it has a rather big front-to-back dimension - more than 35 mm anyway. Although it would 'do the job', I'm concerned that you may not get a good 'bare bulb' type spread within the modifier. I hope you get a third opinion . . .

Your link ..
ie;
http://www.amazon.com …keywords=bowens+speedring (external link)

I realize that it's a Fotodiox product - I hope you hear from an actual user ..
Maybe just try it and decide for yourself.
