Ok. Another question: Can the power be adjusted low enough if you're working in a fairly small indoor location?

I had been looking at alienbees and some of the comments were that the higher power lights ended up being too much power if the location was small.

Heya,

Yes. At 1/128th power you can use it in a tiny box of a room. I just tested it because in the past I felt it was too strong, but that was my user error. I just used it with the stock bowl modifier and cover, at 1/128th power with a camera set to 1/200s, F2 and ISO 100 and it didn't blow the room white. So there's a lot of wiggle room. If you use a modifier, especially a larger one with an inner lining (like a softbox) or if you use more narrow apertures than F2, at 1/200s and ISO 100, you should be able to use the Rovelight even in a room as big as my office which I just tested which is may be 14" x 9" or so.

Realistically, I'd have normally shot at F2.8 or F4, or even F8, at such close distance for a portrait for example in such a small space, so the Rovelight would have been totally fine at 1/64 to 1/16 power behind a modifier.

Very best,

I'm within a hair of pulling the trigger and getting one, especially with the 24hr sale. I need to know if it comes with a reflector, or do I need to buy separately? I checked the Q&A on Adorama's site, and one person had posed this question but went unanswered.

Yes, they supply a 5 in (inner front diameter) reflector. They add a translucent diffuser for it - only safe at the lower powers IMO.
Its shape is a little deep for umbrella use - but it's very easy to source Bowens S fit items for your needs. For instance, I wanted a 7 in reflector with grids ..

Thanks, they offer a 7" reflector with grid, however it's on back order.

How many of you who already have this unit have purchased the extra battery? Do you use it often?

If you didn't purchase the extra battery, do you wish you had?

The one with a single battery is a good deal, but adding the extra battery loses some of the "deal" value. Still not bad but curious if I will "need" it.

I only have the one light and battery so far, and have been impressed with the amount of power it packs in, but I'm still planning to pick up spare battery for the light eventually just to have on hand. Just waiting for the budget to allow me to get an order for two more lights and 3 spare batteries off.

Also need to get myself more fuses to toss in the gear bag, and decide what rolling case would be best to store a 3-4 light setup.

Or buy a second RL. That's a backup battery with a backup flash, and your "'deal' value" remains intact. ;-)a But I hear you. The ouch from the RL purchase will subside in a few weeks. Then you can buy the backup battery.

Buy the deal now...I almost did last night. Christmas is right around the corner. :D
