Hello everyone. I've got this issue that is new to me (which doesn't take much) and I'm hoping with all the talent and experience on this forum you can lead me in the right direction. The image attached looks just fine on my calibrated 27 inch monitor. However, I noticed when I printed it on my Canon Pro 100 there are faint vertical lines about every 1/4 inch or so. Never had that to happen before. I posted this image in one of the "show your landscape photos" threads and notices that on the screen from the post, the image has arched lines in the sky. I'm using Lightroom 5.4 CC with latest updates and ran the image through Perfect Photo Resize 8 before printing.

Got any ideas?

Thanks

I see the banding in the sky. These are caused by uneven or non-smooth transitions from one shade of a color to the next. You might check your camera settings to make sure you have "fine" settings turned on and are using the maximum image size - RAW would be best. In Lightroom and Photoshop, using a 16 bit color depth would probably eliminate the problem, but create a huge file. Also check that the color space is consistent across programs and printer settings, sRGB would be my guess as the best. Finally, are you using a printer profile?

As for the Canon vertical lines - did you clean the heads before printing? If so, then it sounds like a bad print head.

Thanks OBX. I'll check the camera settings and the sRGB. All the other prints have been fine and this is the first posted that has the banding. Yes, i am using RAW, but when uploading the file, I followed the requirements to the letter. 1024x1024 (I think) and max size 150. I'll try the print again and make sure I'm printing from the RAW and not the exported jpeg. Interesting thing is the bands on the print are vertical and the posted image, as you can see, are curved. Gotta love technology; when it works.

I'm posting again after checking some of the print settings to see if the banding is still present.

Interesting. The banding is gone from the print, but obviously remains in the exported image.

To attach an image here you have to resize it to the point that banding will show. Try posting a larger image at a hosting site like flickr and then embedding the image.

Thanks Gonzogolf, I was suspecting it had something to do with converting to jpeg, but hadn't thought about the re-sizing.
