Howdy notastockpikr,

Yep, I hear ya regarding losing 1-2 stops with a CPL. I was shooting at 1/4000th and iso 125 so I've got a little room to lose a few stops if there is good payback from the CPL :D.

Howdy canonphotog,

Good to keep the "90 degrees" in mind when tuning the CPL :D.

It's a must for wildlife/ or other subjects on water Dave. Bright sunny summer days cause all sorts of problems without this filter, I know to my cost, and a friend who thought he had Dolphin "shots of a lifetime" till he viewed them on the PC later! The sky looks more blue and you lose 2 stops but shouldn't be a problem on a bright sunny day.

This CP is designed for use in 10K plus lenses, and as such is pretty much perfect in use.

The only thing that's better more sensible / affordable is SIGMA's solution, (which of course only works on the SIGMA Super telephotos) which has the rotational aspect built in at no extra cost, allowing you to rotate any filter.

I've had the Canon 52mm CPL since 2005 ish for my V1 500mm IS. I use it anytime I'm on the water, shore birds etc, and often as I work into the later morning light to help with taming the sky.

CPL's on telephotos work wonders, you don't get the exaggerated dark areas that are common on ultra wide angles.

Howdy Jake,

I did pick one up with the help of Greentoe.com :D and have been able to use it for surfing shots and had it at-the-ready for wildlife. I haven't been shooting in the most demanding of CPL lighting but, none-the-less, I'm glad I've got it with me for when it is a must ;).

I have old tele's that use the 48mm drop-in CPL's... Used them several times for landscapes and water scenery... Works great for me... I'm sure the newer model (52mm) are optically better made, Dave...

:)
