Silverwolfpup, I select the eyes and create a mask in Photoshop to allow me to isolate them. I very careful adjust the brightness with care not to go too far and create an unnatural appearance. Dark-eyed birds like Kingfisher and Barred Owls as examples, are good candidates for this especially if their eyes happen to have some cast shadows on them. A careful adjustment can give dark eyes a bit of sparkle and "life" that they loose in the shade. Side lighting will often make dark eyes much darker than ideal. I don't use flash so I don't benefit from the fill light that provides but I also don't have to wrestle with cast shadows and correct artificial catch lights. Photoshop is a great tool, that is if you know how to use it, i'm still learning hehe. Eyes Of The Wolf Photography With GOD all things are possible
