I've been using Duracell Ultra Power but it seems to eat through them pretty fast so I was wondering what batteries other people are using and how long they last

Cheers

I always use NiMh rechargeables. They work out cheaper in the long run and also are very fast at recharging the flash. I get through 4 sets of 4 batteries (normally 2800 or 2900mh ones) in a year. I just get the 7 day shop ones. I do take an awful lot of pics.

Sanyo's Eneloops, and Maha's Powerex. Eneloops for longevity and Powerex for rapid recycling.

I used to use rechargeables but with less frequent use I found they were loosing capacity too much and reverted to ordinary primary cells.

In Syl Arena's book "Speedliter's Handbook: Learning to Craft Light with Canon Speedlites" here did a battery test, this would have been with an EX 580 II I think, but I should think it reads across. He looked at various bests, like number of flashes, best cost etc.

Another vote for Sanyo's Eneloops -can be in your camera bag for several months and still retain over 90% of their charge.

My Eneloops hold almost all their charge for many months, and a substantial majority for at least a year. I can't say enough good things about them in terms of meeting my personal needs and usage patterns. They have quite a large capacity (mAH), too.

I also supplement my internal batteries with an external Quantum Turbo SC battery which plugs into the side of the MT-24 flash unit. It provides noticeably shorter recycle times and it also works well for my usage patterns.

Do read the MT-24 manual carefully about heat capacity and the max number of flash activations in a short time. The flash heads don't have much heat capacity - always touch them to make sure they're not getting too hot during use. I have a bad habit of getting too excited by an interesting bug and losing count of how many flash exposures I've just made.

Cheers for the suggestions everyone. I think I'll try an Eneloops vs 7dayshop face off next summer, see which come out on top

I don't own an MT-24ex but I ALWAYS use rechargeables. I find Eneloops last the longest between charges (more flashes per charge), followed my Energizer and then Duracell 'Stay charged'. I've always purchased mine off ebay, much cheaper than the town centre prices.

I don't think they are awful, more awesome :)

I agree. I use re-chargeable batteries and they very seldom present any issues.
