I am trying to calibrate my Sigma 35mm f/1.4. I just downloaded the latest version of the SIGMA Optimization Pro software (version 1.2) onto the in-laws' PC (Windows 7 64), connected my lens to the dock and plugged it in. The software checks for updates and then checks for new lens firmware but prompts me with an error, saying, "Cannot recognize the lens. Please contact your nearest authorized SIGMA".

Any suggestions? I've tried disconnecting the lens from the dock and reconnecting it several times and even tried plugging the dock into various USB ports. Nothing seems to work. :(

EDIT: I also own the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and just connected it with no issues. It recognizes the lens. I'm wondering if Sigma screwed something up after the last time I sent it off to them? :( Grrrr... I'm furious. Guess I have to send it off now :( I tried cleaning the contacts and that didn't help so I guess there must be something wrong with the lens.

So I just got off the phone with Sigma and they asked me to find the paper work from when I had it serviced. I found the paper work and it turns out Sigma actually did not work on my lens at all. Since I am in Canada, Leo's Camera Supply (where I bought my lens) sent it off the Gentec in Markham, Ontario for service; NOT Sigma. I apologized, hung-up and called Gentec. Long story short, I am waiting to hear back from the guru himself tomorrow since he is away from his desk today. I'm hoping for a simple fix but according to the Sigma technician, he seemed to think they (Gentec) entered the serial wrong when reprogramming the lens. :( So, it may very well need to be shipped off to Gentec again. *grumble grumble*

I'll keep you guys updated on my findings.

It's a gem. An absolute Gem! I just had some issues with the AF motor squealing in extreme cold weather. When they repaired it, they also had to reprogram it and I never got around to fine tuning the lens with the dock until now. So, I just realized now that there is in issue getting the lens to communicate with the dock. Likely due to whatever Gentec did. All I can say is that when this lens nails the focus (I've been shooting in burst mode on my 7D and AI Servo since it's not calibrated yet), it blows my mind every single time. The color, contrast and sharpness wide open just astounds me. Despite the issues I've had, it's all worth it in my opinion. Once you get this puppy fine tuned, not much can even come close. Just my 2 cents.

I'm about to go outside right now and calibrate my newly acquired 18-35. Should be fun. 16 variables. Hah! Wish me luck ;)

UPDATE: Wow. OK... curveball. I just got home (I was out of town at the in-laws' house when I tried this over the weekend) and just tried it from home now. It works! For whatever reason, it would recognize the 18-35 on the in-laws' computer but not my 35mm f/1.4. Both work at home though! How bizarre...

Correct.

I purchased the 35A shortly after it was released. I borrowed my neighbor's 18-35 a couple weeks ago for some urban/fireworks photos and was totally mind-blown at how sharp the images were. He sold it to me for $600 (Canadian). Too good of a deal to pass on. Surely, I can sell it for more if I decide to let it go but I doubt I will.

I spent about 2 hours calibrating my 35 and 18-35. Talk about tedious! Both lenses are bang-on now though so it was well worth it and I learned quite a bit. My 18-35 values were all over the place while the 35A #'s were all within 0 and +2.
