I noticed this once up on the screen.

Shot at 10mm at f/10. Check out how the drive way in the foreground slopes away sharply to the left while verticals are vertical and the horizon is horizontal.

Am I seeing things? By the way it's been quite awhile since I've shot with an ultra wide angle.

Heya,

Looks like typical ultrawide distortion to me. 2 more mm and it would be fisheye. If anything I'm a bit impressed at the distortion being so minimal for 10mm.

Very best,

Looks like you have the camera pointed slightly to your right from where you're standing. Try pointing it dead-straight or move to the center of the street and see what you get.

Very best,

Not quite true - a focal length doesn't determine ALL distortion characteristics. Fisheye lenses are uncorrected, termed curvilinear. Rectilinear lenses ARE corrected for fisheye effect.

OP - the reason there's more in the bottom left corner is because you've not got the camera set parallel with the wall and building either side - you're twisted toward the RHS.

I'm not saying there's a problem with my EF-S 10-18mm, I just think the distortion at the bottom left of the image is a tad strange.

I'm no expert in shooting ultrawide, but it seems that there is very very little leeway in holding the camera dead level, before getting some weird & wonderful distortion happening :) I usually take 2 shots of most things, just I'm case, & the difference between 2shots can be quite amazing.

I shoot ultrawide a lot and this is one reason I'm nearly always on a tripod if possible. If you are not really observant it is very easy to get something looking weird. This is also why I don't bother with levels and the like - you can be perfectly level and still get weird looking effects just from the unusual perspective.

I agree it looks like the driveway is sloping to the left, even though it isn't. It also looks like it would be hard to correct with perspective correction too.

Thanks guys,, I've just been reviewing videos shot the last few days with the 10-18mm. It appears I do have a slight list towards port side. Not with every video but with some more evident than others. Something I need to rectify.
