I scored media credentials for an upcoming fight and would like to know what lens you would recommend for my 7D. I will be right beside the octagon, shooting through the mesh.

Any of the 17-5x's. Or the sigma 18-35 1.8, although that may be tougher to find in a rental. It will be very well lit, so 2.8 will be more than enough.

I own the 18-35 and actually just calibrated it using all 16 variables with the dock today! That's what I was thinking. Probably a no-brainier eh? I also own the 35 1.4 Art.

For events, I use three bodies: one with the 18-35, one with a 50mm, and the SL1 with 85 1.8 in the lowepro "fanny pack" looking bag.

With what you have, the 17-50, 50, and 85 would be best.

I think you read the wrong signature. I don't have a gear list in mine :p I don't care if I have to buy or rent a lens. I just want to know what you all think the most ideal lens would be on a crop body if shooting ring side. I'm beginning to think my 18-35 f/1.8 is perfect though. :)

Last fights I photographed (small Muay Thai show) I used a sigma 17-50, with a sigma 30 1.4 on a second body. Unless you're running multiple bodies, stick with a zoom. The octagon is surprisingly big, and you don't get a lot of say as to where the action takes place. I'm very jealous of your opportunity!
