Okay... so I picked up a 600EX-RT to replace my stolen 580EXII...

ran into a problem with triggering the 600 with my PW Plus X... it works perfectly as long as the speedlight is not mounted in my "cold shoe" umbrella mount. But as soon as I slide it into the "cold shoe" it won't trigger at all.

Ideas?

it was in M mode.

Is the cold shoe metal and touching the pins on the bottom of the flash or PW ?
A mate of mine had issues with his flashes because they were shorting on his lightstands.

Give it a try - it may be causing an issue.

When you have a metal cold shoe, if the pins from the speedlite touches any part of the cold shoe, you will sometime experience flash problems. Simply tape the base of the cold shoe with some black electrical tape and you'll be fine......

thanks echo and Loft... appreciate your input. I'll give that a try. it's just strange that the 580 never had the issue.

The pins on your 580 may have been just enough shorter than those of your 600 so that they didn't touch. As the old saying goes: A miss is as good as a mile. ;) That said, I run my 600's mounted in Stroboframe and Phottix metal cold shoes all the time and don't have any issues with the pins contacting the shoe.

I had issues with metal shoes with my 550EX's years and years ago but never had issues with my 580EX's, 580EXII's or 600EX's..... Go figure!
