I will not be using these for anything photography related, but I used one of my heavy 9' stands and it works amazing for this application, so figured I would look for the cheapest 7' stands I could find.

Recomendations where to look?

Saying what the application is would help. You say a heavy 9' works well. Is it steel-heavy or simply a heavy-duty alum. lightstand?

Its heavy duty alum. But is still way overkill. Its all overkill, but we plan to use it in the machine shop to hold a keyboard and papers at our CNC machines. So a real light 7' stand will work, we can always toss a sandbag on it if need be.

Then check these out:

There are some cheaper options on amazon but they are "cheaper" in more ways than one.

Another vote for those PBLs that amirg linked above. I have them and I like them. The lever-type locking collars need occasional adjustment if you use them a lot; otherwise they are pretty good for that price.
