This isn't technically photography related, but considering all the times that photographers get asked for freebies with the nebulous promise of 'exposure', I thought many here would find this interesting.

The NFL is taking it a step further, and wants acts to PAY for the 'privilege' of performing, claiming they'd gain everything back and more in the exposure they'd get. Wow, whoever thought that one up has some big cahones.

Might be a way for Roseanne Barr to redeem herself. :)

Took them long enough. The WNBA team here charges half time acts for all games AND expects them to sell 100 tickets to family members and friends.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Agree. But just as in photography where it nets lesser-talented photographers who bite at the "exposure" crap, so, too, lesser-talented act will be the ones responding - the unknowns seeking exposure.

In the end, it will all even out. The complaints about the garbage entertainment and requests for mainstream, known good acts will wear upon those who make decisions and this new experimental venture into the "let's see who we can rip off next" will end.

I thought about this a little more and decided that actually it's not a bad idea.

I think I'll write the NFL, NBA, etc. and tell them they need to pay me to come watch games.

When games are televised, one of the worst perceptions is when viewers of the telecasts see empty seats. That's bad for marketing - bad for exposure. So from now on, I expect to be paid to attend sports events.

The question really is, who actually watches the half time shows anymore anyway. I am probably rare here, but I record the event, and mostly just flip through to watch the commercials. And the last few years have even really had any great commercials, so I might just stop watching it all together. I love football, so it is not about that, but I get tired of all the drivel the commentators spout and the game as of late have not really been games to watch.

There is no possible way for Rosanne Barr to redeem herself. Like Hanoi Jane, she crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed.

Went to see her standup a few years back. She was reading from a teleprompter on the floor and totally bombed. Very disappointing show.

This year, the game averaged 112 million viewers. The halftime show had 115 million.

So, apparently lots of people.

Don't forget that the NFL rakes in over $10 BILLION per year while at the same time enjoying tax-exempt status. NFL team owners (most of whom are Billionaires) routinely expect taxpayers to shell out $millions to help finance new stadiums. Pure and simple, this is unadulterated GREED. I'd put it in the same category as asking photographers to pay for displaying photos in a magazine.

Another thing, most acts are forced to lip-sync anymore. Remember this year when the Red Hot Chili Peppers "played" with their instruments unplugged in protest? They were pretty pissed about not being able to play live.

How else will the WNBA get 100 fans in the stands?
