Doesnt seem to help. Everything else changes but those are still blurry. I had read somewhere else before that it may need a mirror alignment.
If you can see out the viewfinder and everything looks in focus, I'm surprised that just the just the focus points are blurry. The mirror has nothing to do with the focus screen. They are totally separate. There is a penta-mirror that bends the light path before it exits from the VF, but any misalignment there would mean that everything is wonkey. It's also odd that changing the diopter does not change anything, it should change quite a bit.
You might try this. Set the lens focus to minimum focus and pointing the camera towards something in the distance, try changing the diopter while looking through the VF. Everything but the focus points should be very blurry and with each click it should change from blurry to sharp depending on the setting needed for your eye. If it doesn't change at all, maybe the diopter is broken and it's stuck a bit unfocused, but then the image should be OOF as well.
