my only experience working with LED panel lights were the somewhat large 1x1 panels when i worked at my local PBS affiliate. they were some of the original panels before companies started making the bi-color lights. the quality and craftsmanship was very nice but the only problem is i dont remember who made them because it didnt have any obvious markings on them. i also own an ikan 144 bi color small camera panel light and love it. that suckers has been through a lot the past 3 years and has done a great job.

my new job is working as the videographer at a small university. i have a kino flo 4bank and diva light. neither are easy to travel around campus with while also carrying a tripod and camera and both require an external power supply and cables. im pretty sure the person that held this job before me mainly used them for outside freelance work as i cant see many people doing solo run and gun video with a 4bank lol

im currently trying to research between ikan and Dracast. i know very little about the larger size panels and what is available out there. im currently looking at the 500 bulb options but am also considering a combo 1000 and 500 bulb kit. im doing research now so i have not yet asked for more practical lighting gear but im always being asked if i need anything and other than a tricaster for broadcasting i dont need anything lol

anyone have extensive experience with these newer LED bi-color panels? im so used to older fresnel lights and kino flos that when i started using LEDs for PBS i didnt get extensive field experience with them for more than a few shoots

Hi Brian, I have several years of experience working with LED's, particularly the ARRI Broadcasters. I built a studio for a client that consists of about two dozen of those fixtures, but I shopped around EVERY SINGLE BRAND available at NAB 2012 and I landed with the ARRI's for several reasons: Color consistency, true warm to cool tones, +/- Green, modifier options, cost, etc.

The bottom line is this: I HATE LED"s haha. Truthfully, I love fresnels, so until the ARRI and Disisti fresnels can be a viable field solution, I will stick with tungstens..... just my two cents.
