Had a day off today, spent it taking pictures of myself in a park in town.

Had intended to bring all my lights, got out there and realized I left them in a neat stack by the door of my apartment. So, this is natural light only, and I do wish I'd had some fill to soften the shadows, especially under my eyes.

Would love to get others' thoughts/comments/critiques, on whatever aspects of this you notice! Thanks!

Me, too. Or you could have looked for some open shade: Angeline outdoors

White balance is off. Yellow skin tone/teeth.

Glimpse of right forearm looks a bit odd. Looks flat and slimmer than left wrist.

Agreed with both above ^

Fill flash and white balance adjust.
But still a really good shot and nothing that a little majic on the computer couldn't fix.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! And this was actually open shade, at about the worst possible time of day (I think 1pm), which I knew would be tricky, but I was there and figured I might as well try.

Will see what a crop and some WB adjustments can do, thanks!

the 7d has a pop up flash, right? dial back FEC and use it as fill flash.

white balance is subjective. If i didn't know this images was taken at 1:00 i would probably think it was during sunset.

you are definitely on the right track. The line formed by the edge of the field and forest going through your neck is a bit distracting.

yes, 7d has a popup- and I tried that, but couldn't get it to HSS, and at 1/250 it was pretty blown. (I knew I wanted f/2 for DOF, at 2.8 the BG was pretty busy).

On a related note, does anyone know if the popup is not capable of HSS? I knew it can't do wireless HSS like a 580 can, but I was a bit surprised by that. I know, RTFM, right?

Thanks for the feedback- I hadn't noticed that line in the background at all until you mentioned it, but I'll watch out for that in the future!

I could be wrong, but I don't think there are any on camera pop up's that will do HSS. Since HSS is a completely different technology than regular flash, it would probably add quite a bit of cost to a body for a pop up HSS capable flash, and it would be wasted since most on camera flash does not do most images any justice.
