Really enjoying this thread, thanks for posting.

I'm eagerly anticipating the Elinchrom FS30 modifier, but I suspect it will be out of my price range for "toys."

Surely will be something quite nice, but I really like continuous lighting for these kind of portraits.

I bought three 6 inch and one 8 inch 1k fresnel lights for $45 off of Craig's List, spent another $90 on dimmers and I have started playing with Fresnel hot lights. Below are a couple from a 10 minute test shoot yesterday. I need to pull the key light further away so the light is more even, but I like working with hot lights so far. I will practice a little more and then get a couple models to come in. (The test pics are with a couple employees, obviously not models)

Not a posed portrait; this was with a stage spotlight during a live performance.

I didn't inspect the spotlight to see if it really has a Fresnel lens ... maybe it doesn't, I dunno :)

I see these shots pop up in the Flickr stream and always think they look stunning! interesting to see they are done with a fresnel, never something I've looked at but quite tempted to investigate further now.

#1 is great. The light on her thumb is a distraction. I would knock it down to minimize it's
visual impact on this image. A lot of the others are good too. I would watch putting the leading
shoulder into the frame as it looks large and disproportional.....Nice work!

Her shoulder and breast takes up a lot of the image and it's sticking out, right into the
viewers face. A different crop would do wonders for this one.

Not really fair; you have a face that's tailor made for fresnel lighting. :-)

A recent one, not playing too often anymore with the fresnel.
