From a friend in Europe I am hearing of Nikon's recall for D810 due to bright spots/noise in long exposure images.
Did anyone hear of this in this side of ponds and is it really true??

It's under very specific circumstances. Situations under which a handful of people use the camera in. Nothing regarding regular intended use.

I shoot all the time like this. Not unusual at all. A recall is a recall and Nikon as had quite a few of them with recent models. They don't beta test enough, too anxious for market share.

It's not a recall. It's a service advisory. Just because the shooting conditions are normal for you, one person, doesn't make them normal for everyone. They've also made them right, even giving D610's to D600 owners who had the problem. Could you see Canon doing that?

Not just Nikon.

Remember the 1D3 and its non-functioning AF system? The 5D2 with its black spots next to highlights and other bright ponts? The 24-105L and its awful corner lens flare?

I've tried this on my D810 and did not see this issue. I may have been lucky! :)

I know I sent my Nikon in. It had dust on the body. How could they ship a camera that will get dusty?

I'm not calling it what I like. That's what Nikon is calling it.

I spent over a year trying to get my 1dmkiii's fixed by Canon... They came back to me several times still with the same issue. The amazing D3 came out about that time. Reason I've been shooting Nikon since. Nikon gave me a d610 to replace my d600 couple weeks ago. Nikon jumped right on the d810 issue within a couple weeks of release. They treated me right so far.

I would be shooting Nikon too if I were you.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!
