We were able to approach this family of burrowing owls quite closely. Then suddenly it started to rain (actually it was just droplets of water falling from the sky. However, in this desert land in southern California, it was more than enough to be considered "rain"). To our delighted amazement, the owls started to display a behavior that we have not read about. They spread their wings, held that wingspread position, and turned their bodies from one direction to another. It was as if they tried to make sure all parts of their bodies were exposed to the welcomed bath.

We snapped our shutters away, and felt so privileged to witness this delightful behavior.

#3 - Would you agree with me that this little guy enjoyed the bath so much that he actually grin for the picture? :)
