So in addition to the gear in my signature, I just purchased an 85mm 1.8 and have a 35mm f/2 IS coming any day now.

I'll be shooting a work lunch banquet next week. It's an indoor venue so low light, but I've been asked not to use flash.

I'm thinking I might use both of my bodies. I was considering experimenting with just primes, using the 35 on the 6D and the 85 on the SL1 for when I need reach. Another option would be my trusty 24-105 on the 6D and the 35mm f/2 on the SL1.

Any suggestions? This is the first time I'm gonna try shooting with two cameras.

I think your plan of using the two primes on two bodies sounds like a good one.

No harm in trying the Sl1 in low light but I have been disappointed with its performance in such venues.

Probably my lack of patience or other user error. But don't expect 6D/5D3 performance with the Sl1. And I would not go higher than 1600 ISO.

(I have used the 35 f/2 IS on the Sl1 and love it in good light.)

In all fairness, I was also a bit disappointed in the 6D for moving subjects in low light. But that's a minority view as well.

For your event, nevertheless, given what you have to work with (and assuming not much movement on the subjects) I would use all three lenses on the 6D. They are all excellent lenses for your stated purposes.

I agree with Eastport on this but would like to add, set your min shutter speed to 60. If I use less then 60 my keeper rate drops, people move all the time.

I would bring the SL1 as a backup and keep it aside. I'd use just the 6D and switch lenses when needed, between the 24-105mm and the 35mm.

If it is dark like you say, you should use the 6D as much as possible and crank up the ISO.
